Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata
Es el festival más popular e importante de este género musical en Colombia que se realiza cada año en Valledupar, la cuna del vallenato. Es "un certamen que trabaja y propende por la defensa y difusión de la expresión folclórica y popular conocida como música vallenata en cuatro de sus aires, paseo, merengue, puya y son", como lo describe la Fundación Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata. Se realiza cada año durante la última semana de abril, con varios concursos, incluyendo el premio al mejor acordeonero profesional del año.
Las categorías de este concurso son:
Valledupar se viste de fiesta, espectáculos y buena música durante cinco días, en los que lugareños y visitantes se dan cita en la Plaza Francisco el Hombre y los diferentes escenarios donde se presentan artistas reconocidos, los concursantes y los aficionados. Al compás de sones, merengues, paseos y puyas pasan los días en el esta tierra vallenata.
La historia del Festival Vallenato data del año 1968, cuando por iniciativa del compositor Rafael Escalona y Consuelo Araújo Noguera, promotora cultural, se solicita al entonces gobernador César Alfonso López Michelsen su creación. Con el paso del tiempo, este evento se ha convertido en un punto de encuentro de artistas, políticos, y personalidades nacionales e internacionales, quienes disfrutan de días en los que el vallenato es el protagonista

Cada año se realiza en Valledupar la Feria Ganadera en la segunda mitad del año. Esta feria, es un espacio abierto para que los ganaderos de la región expongan lo mejor de sus ejemplares. Allí mismo se realizan espectáculos musicales y se venden artesanías.
