La oferta turística de Salento permite encontrar escenarios naturales para todo tipo de actividades: ecoturismo, agroturismo, avistamiento de aves, montañismo, entre otras. Aquí se pueden encontrar atractivos como:
Parque Natural Valle del Cocora
Se encuentra ubicado a 24 kilómetros de Armenia por la vía Armenia – Salento y a 10 kilómetros al norte del municipio. Hace parte del Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados y es una gran reserva natural de la cordillera central colombiana, donde se encuentra en hábitat natural, el árbol nacional de Colombia: la palma de cera. En esta montaña se puede encontrar gran variedad de flora y fauna, la mayoría en peligro de extinción.
La entrada principal a este valle, se encuentra en “La Truchera”, grupo de establecimientos que ofrecen variedad de servicios como: restaurantes (famosos por la venta de trucha), parque infantil, caminatas, camping, artesanías y otros servicios y entretenimiento para disfrutar de uno de los paisajes más hermosos de Colombia. Se encuentra ubicado en la vereda Boquía a 15 minutos del casco urbano de Salento. Esta obra fue ejecutada en 1948 para conectar el antiguo ferrocarril de occidente con la capital del país (desde Buenaventura hasta Bogotá). Su construcción se considera Monumento Nacional por su estructura en forma de arcos hecha en piedra y una altura aproximada de 12 metros, sobre el río con el nombre de la vereda.
Plaza de Bolívar
Plaza principal del municipio. Su belleza colonial, refleja la historia de una población que vivió eventos importantes del pasado y comienzos del legado de la colonización. Se encuentra rodeada de las casas arquitectónicas más representativas de Salento.
Templo Nuestra Señora del Carmen
Ubicada en la Plaza de Bolívar, fue una construcción realizada luego de la fundación del municipio en 1850. Su estructura se realizó con influencias de arte español y colombiano, ya que posee toques en madera y barro.
Tramos del Camino Nacional y Boquía
En los alrededores de Salento se encuentra una larga extensión de tierra, paso de comerciantes y arrieros luego de la conquista española; ésta era la única forma de comunicar las villas de Popayán y Cali con Santafé de Bogotá. La apertura de este camino se realizó por decreto en el año de 1830, escrito por Simón Bolívar. Este evento permitió la creación y avance de las poblaciones cercanas, convirtiéndose en punto de abastecimiento y descanso de los caminantes.
El recorrido por este camino comienza en el Valle de Cocora extendiéndose por la vereda Boquía. La caminata por este lugar revela la importancia histórica del atractivo, sus variaciones, hechos y personajes significativos que lo recorrieron.
Ecoparque el Mirador
Para llegar a este punto, se parte de la carrera cuarta en el municipio de Salento. Es un mirador compuesto por un balcón hecho en guadua, donde se puede apreciar los paisajes que comprenden el Valle de Cocora. Cuenta de un camino que se conecta con el mirador Alto de la Cruz, otro sitio que ofrece vista panorámica de la zona. En el lugar se reúnen puestos donde se venden productos típicos.
Mirador Alto de la Cruz
Para llegar a este lugar se suben unos escalones desde el final de la calle Real, recorrido que es utilizado por muchos como camino de peregrinación, a través del cual se pueden apreciar las diferentes estaciones del vía Crucis. Desde este mirador se obtiene una vista panorámica del Valle de Cocora y del municipio de Salento.
Cerro Morrogacho
Se encuentra aproximadamente a 3.450 m.s.n.m, antes de llegar al Parque Nacional Los Nevados. El acceso a este escenario natural se realiza a pie, partiendo desde el Valle de Cocora. Para hacer este recorrido lo visitantes deben tomar sus precauciones ya que el sendero que conduce al lugar no es fácil, por lo cual es recomendable ir acompañado de un guía con experiencia. Su territorio se caracteriza por albergar bosques andinos, lugar que era cementerio, en donde los indígenas de la zona antiguamente realizaban sus ritos.
