Comprende un territorio con una temperatura promedio de 30°C, que reúne playas naturales como Playa Ojo de Agua (una pequeña playa con acantilados) y la Playa El Cabo (bahía bañada por aguas de tonos azules y verdes, apta para la práctica de kitesurf o windsurf); y otros lugares de interés como el Faro (que permite tener una vista panorámica, apreciando el Ojo de Agua y la playa El Cabo) y el Cerro Pilón de Azúcar (lugar de partida de las almas hacia el mundo del Más allá, según la mitología Wayúu).
Existen dos caminos para viajar al Cabo de la Vela, el primero es el de Cuatro Vías, que conduce a los municipios de Uribia y Manaure y el segundo es la vía que lleva a El Pájaro y Musichi. Es recomendable tomar la primera vía ya que las condiciones de la segunda no son buenas durante todo el año.

Parque Eólico Jepírachi
Situado al norte del departamento de La Guajira, a pocos kilómetros del Cabo de Vela, su nombre se deriva del vocablo en lengua de los Wayúu que significa vientos del nor-este. Este parque inició operaciones en abril del año 2004 y tiene la capacidad de generar, entre 60.000 y 75.000 megavatios por hora, tomando la energía producida por el viento de los 15 molinos que hacen parte del lugar. Al parque pueden llegar visitantes para conocer este sitio donde se produce energía de manera limpia.

Punta Gallinas
Situado al extremo norte de La Guajira, presenta paisajes caracterizados por la presencia de acantilados, dunas, manglares y playas bañadas por el Mar Caribe. Para llegar a este atractivo se sale de la carretera que lleva a Puerto Bolívar y se toma un camino sin pavimentar con dirección al noreste.

Parque Natural Las Cascadas
Ubicado aproximadamente a 66 km. de la capital departamental, alberga una tupida vegetación que hace parte de la sierra Nevada de Santa Marta y una variada fauna entre las que se encuentran el zaíno, la guatinaja, tucanes, loro orejinegro, entre otros. Gracias a sus características geográficas, sus visitantes pueden experimentar la hidroterapia, lodoterapia y talosoterapia; así como disfrutar de cascadas y piscinas naturales.

Parque Nacional de la Serranía de Macuira
Área natural situada en el resguardo indígena Wayúu, que se caracteriza por albergar el bosque enano nublado perennifolio, comprendiendo la única elevación montañosa en el área semidesértica de la Alta Guajira, convirtiéndose así en un oasis que contiene una gran biodiversidad representada por varios tipos de aves, venados, entre otros. Presenta una temperatura promedio de 25°C y tiene una altura que varía desde los 0 a los 450 m.s.n.m.
Para llegar a este parque no existe transporte público que lleve hasta el lugar, se debe contratar un servicio de transporte especial. Se sale de Riohacha, vía Uribia, tomando una vía sin pavimentar que lleva a la Bahía Portete y luego se toma una trocha hasta alcanzar Nazareth (recorrido de una duración aproximada de 7 u 8 horas, que debe realizarse en la época seca ya que en invierno el acceso es complicado).

Mayapo
Situado a 25 km. de Riohacha, se trata de un caserío que forma parte de Manaure, al cual se puede llegar tomando una vía en buenas condiciones. Su principal actividad económica es la pesca; sin embargo el turismo ha ido adquiriendo fuerza dentro de la economía del lugar, gracias a sus blancas playas -típicas de la Media Guajira- en donde se pueden realizar deportes de aventura como el kitesurf, windsurf y pasear en veleros de pequeño tamaño. En los alrededores de Mayapo se han levantado una infraestructura básica (incluyendo kioscos) que permite la práctica de estos deportes.
Santuario de Fauna y Flora Los Flamencos
Situado entre el corregimiento de Camarones y la capital guajira, y la desembocadura del río Tapias, entre los 0 y 5 m.s.n.m.; se caracteriza por albergar principalmente bandadas de flamencos, entre otros animales como osos hormigueros y venados, también cuenta con la presencia de una variada flora y manglares. Presenta una temperatura promedio de 28°C y un clima cálida, donde se puede apreciar playones de color blanco.
Para llegar al santuario se toma la troncal Caribe hasta llegar a Camarones, punto desde el cual se sigue por un camino de aproximadamente 3 km., con dirección norte hasta La Boca.

Complejo Carbonífero El Cerrejón
Se constituye como el yacimiento carbonífero más grande de América Latina, que acoge a visitantes de Colombia y de otros países que buscan conocer el proceso de extracción del carbón en un escenario a cielo abierto. Existen recorridos con costo, que se ofrecen para turistas y estudiantes, siguiendo unas normas de seguridad para que la visita se realice de manera cómoda y sin riesgo. También cuenta con un centro de visitantes del complejo carbonífero, donde se ofrece servicio de almuerzo y venta de artesanías.

Salinas de Manaure
Se encuentran ubicadas en el municipio del mismo nombre, su principal atractivo es el paisaje generado por los cerros de sal que predominan en este lugar. A ellas se puede llegar, saliendo, desde Riohacha, tomando el camino de Cuatro Vías y siguiendo por el municipio de Uribia.
Rancherías Wayúu
Las rancherías (pichiipala) son asentamientos rurales de la comunidad Wayúu, que consiste en grupo de cinco o seis viviendas hechas de bahareque o yotojoro (parte del cactus), en su mayoría de forma rectangular. Algunas de éstas han sido adaptadas para recibir a visitantes y practicar el etnoturismo, de tal manera que se puede conocer de cerca las costumbres Wayúu.
Mezquita Omar Ibn Al-Jattab
Situada en el municipio de Maicao, se destaca por ser la tercera mezquita de mayor tamaño dentro de América Latina y por sus rasgos arquitectónicos, entre los que se destaca una torre de un poco más de 30 metros de altura. Su construcción se remonta al año 1987 y constituye un centro espiritual para la comunidad musulmana, presente en la zona, así como lugar de visita para nacionales y extranjeros.
Muelle Turístico de Riohacha
Erigido en el año 1937, se extiende por casi 1 kilómetro y gracias a su ubicación permite admirar una vista panorámica del centro de la capital guajira. Es escenario de la peregrinación de la Virgen de los Remedios.
Malecón de Riohacha
Este sitio de interés también recibe el nombre de Paseo de la Marina, a lo largo de este malecón se pueden apreciar las artesanías Wayúu, ofrecidas por los miembros de esta comunidad indígena. En este lugar también puede encontrar el punto de información turística.
