Fundada en 1622, Bucaramanga se destaca por ser una de las ciudades más bellas de Colombia. La notable presencia de parques y zonas verdes, que adornan la mayoría de los barrios, ha hecho que Bucaramanga se haya ganado apelativos que la identifican como: “ciudad de los parques”, “ciudad bonita” o “ciudad cordial”, esto último por la calidez y amabilidad con la que sus habitantes suelen tratar a todo el que pase o visite este lugar. De la misma forma, el carácter multifacético de este destino lo destaca como ciudad cultural, deportiva y saludable. Igualmente, en Bucaramanga se destacan atractivos de gran interés en su área urbana y metropolitana.
Con una temperatura promedio de 23°C, independiente de los periodos de sequía y lluvias, la vida nocturna en estas áreas también se caracteriza por ser variada y excitante, donde es recomendable pasearse por sectores como el Parque de las Palmas, donde se encuentran reunidos restaurantes y bares.
La ciudad se destaca por reunir a diferentes sectores de la industria nacional: cerca de 500 centros de producción y fabricantes de marroquinería y calzado, con más de un siglo de tradición; fabricantes de joyas que representan el 70% de la producción de joyas a nivel nacional; empresas de confección y venta de prendas de vestir; así como comercializadores de productos cárnicos.
Existen varios museos que permiten ver la historia de la ciudad, tales como: el museo de arte moderno, que compila y organiza exposiciones y talleres de diversos artistas locales e internacionales; la Casa de Bolívar, que alberga en el museo histórico de Santander y el museo Guane con prendas conservadas de una de las comunidades indígenas más representativas de la región y el museo de arte religioso, en Piedecuesta al occidente de la ciudad.
Estando en la ciudad de los parques, dentro de la variedad de zonas verdes de la ciudad se destacan: El Parque del Agua que por la belleza de sus cascadas, fuentes, tanques y senderos sobresalió en 2004, siendo proclamado ganador de la XIX Bienal de Arquitectura del país; el Parque San Pío (o Parque Guillermo Sorziano González ), donde fue colocada la estatua de la “Mujer de pie” del reconocido artista colombiano, maestro Fernando Botero, adquirida para la ciudad conmemorando sus 388 años de fundación y el Parque y Centro Cultural de Oriente, que conserva su arquitectura republicana.
