Por su inmensa y extensa Llanura ubicada en el oriente colombiano, esta región natural encanta con sus atardeceres de color naranja que se desvanecen en el horizonte. Sus paisajes inspiran a locales y visitantes a experimentar y disfrutar de su diversidad natural, cultural, gastronómica y musical.

El Departamento del Meta es uno de los más extensos de Colombia y posee una gran riqueza hídrica, también forma parte de las llanuras orientales de Colombia, su economía se basa en la ganadería, agricultura y minería. Su cultura gira en torno a la vaquería, por esto, uno de sus eventos principales se destaca el Mundial del Coleo.

El Meta cuenta con una gran variedad de alojamiento, como hoteles en zonas urbanas, fincas turísticas y casas campestres a sus alrededores, todos brindan los servicios necesarios para atender a sus visitantes.

Curiosidades y tips

  • • Villavicencio Capital del Meta, se le denomina como ¨La Puerta al Llano¨ por su ubicación, punto de partida y conexión con los otros departamentos de la región de la Orinoquía.
  • Alto de Menegua: Este sitio se encuentra a 6 Km saliendo de Puerto López, es uno de los municipios del Meta, allí se encuentra el monumento del Obelisco, punto al que el instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi (entidad del registro cartográfico de Colombia) señaló como el centro geográfico del país y lo denominó como el ¨Ombligo de Colombia¨.
  • Sierra de la Macarena: es uno de los municipios del Meta, allí se encuentra el río caño cristales, que ha sido denominado como el río de cinco colores o también como el río más hermoso del mundo, gracias a sus aguas cristalinas y algas multicolores.
  • En Villavicencio se celebra el 12 de Octubre de cada año Mundial del Coleo, donde se convoca a los mejores practicantes de esta actividad provenientes de otras ciudades del país, Estado Unidos, Panamá, Venezuela y Chile.
  • En La Gastronomía Metense se encuentra el plato insignia de la región llamado la Mamona: carne de res asada acompañada con papa cocida, yuca, plátano maduro y ají, se caracteriza por su sabor suave y textura tierna de la carne entre otros platos típicos de la región.
  • Las Calles de Villavicencio se convierten en un enorme Joropódromo, cuando se celebra el Torneo Internacional del Joropo, es una danza folclórica con numerosas figuras coreográficas que manifiesta la gallardía y altivez natural del llanero, el cual es el evento cultural más importante del Meta.
