Se encuentra ubicada en una ensenada en el Golfo de Urabá, donde se puede disfrutar de playas de arena blanca bañadas por las aguas del Mar Caribe que albergan arrecifes coralinos  y una variedad de peces que forman parte de la biodiversidad del paisaje marino de Capurganá.

En este destino los visitantes pueden establecer un contacto directo con la naturaleza, al mismo tiempo que descansan y se divierten realizando actividades recreativas y deportivas.

Curiosidades y tips

  • El nombre de Capurganá proviene de un vocablo de la comunidad indígena Kuna que significa tierra de ají.
  • Debido a las precipitaciones presentes en la zona (2.800 mm. en el año), en algunas ocasiones las vías terrestres se pueden ver afectadas, por esta razón es recomendable revisar el estado de las vías antes de realizar su viaje, puede consultar en: http://www.invias.gov.co
  • Se recomienda hacer los recorridos y actividades turísticas en grupo y con un guía certificado.
  • Para practicar actividades ecoturísticas, se debe llevar ropa y calzado cómodos; así mismo, los visitantes deben usar bloqueador solar y repelente para protegerse del sol y de las picaduras de insectos.
  • Ya que Capurganá se encuentra en una zona de bosque tropical, quienes viajen debe vacunarse en contra de la fiebre amarilla.
  • Las características geográficas de la ensenada permiten la práctica del buceo, el cual es recomendable realizar en los meses de abril, mayo y noviembre.
  • Para disfrutar un paseo en lancha por la costa, es mejor no realizarlo durante el periodo comprendido entre los meses de diciembre a febrero, ya que en esta época el oleaje es más fuerte que el resto del año.
  • Ya que en Capurganá no se encuentran bancos y cajeros, los visitantes deben llevar la cantidad de efectivo necesaria que les permita realizar los gastos de viaje.
  • Los visitantes no deben llevar al lugar productos lácteos y cárnicos, para evitar que la aftosa se propague en la zona, de lo contrario serán decomisados por las autoridades.
  • Para los visitantes que desean comprar artesanías, es recomendable adquirir aquellas de origen vegetal y no las elaboradas de caracoles.
  • Las pequeñas embarcaciones que van de Turbo a Capurganá reciben el nombre de “pangas”.
  • No se puede dejar basura en la zona, tal como objetos de plástico y aluminio, papel, aerosoles, baterías y encendedores a gas.
